Flappy Bird Unblocked is a mobile arcade single player game developed by Dong Nguyen May 2013 for android and ios. The game is a side-scroller where the player controls a bird, attempting to fly between columns of green pipes without hitting them. Nguyen created the game over the period of several days, using a bird protagonist that he had designed for a cancelled game in 2012.
Flappy Bird Unblocked was released in May 2013 but received a sudden spike in popularity in early 2014 and became a sleeper hit. Flappy Bird Unblocked received poor reviews from some critics, who criticized its high level of difficulty and alleged plagiarism in graphics and game mechanics, while other reviewers found it addictive.
At the end of January 2014, it was the most downloaded free game in the App Store for iOS. During this period, its developer said that Flappy Bird was earning $50,000 a day from in-app advertisements as well as sales.
Gameplay of Flappy Bird Unblocked
Flappy Bird Unblocked is an arcade-style game in which the player controls the bird Faby, which moves persistently to the right. The player is tasked with navigating Faby through pairs of pipes that have equally sized gaps placed at random heights. Faby automatically descends and only ascends when the player taps the touchscreen.
Each successful pass through a pair of pipes awards the player one point. Colliding with a pipe or the ground ends the gameplay. During the game over screen, the player is awarded a bronze medal if they reached ten or more points, a silver medal from twenty points, a gold medal from thirty points, and a platinum medal from forty points.
Medals
Up till 40, every ten pipes you pass you will earn a medal ranging from bronze to platinum. These do not affect the gameplay, but they are an achievement to earn:
- 10 pipes- Bronze Medal
- 20 pipes- Silver Medal
- 30 pipes- Gold Medal
- 40+ pipes- Platinum Medal
Highscores
While the general score for beginners is below 10, players usually get better and better over time as they play. A very impressive score is over 100, being incredibly hard to achieve. In the Play Store, the high scores are within the millions, but those scores were very likely gotten by the use of cheat engines or hacking.
