Whisky or whiskey is a type of distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash, such as barley, corn, rye and wheat.
There are also regional and personal preference differences in the spelling. For the most part, whiskey is generally used in Ireland and the U.S. I am in the U.S. and my ancestors are from Ireland, so that is the one I chose to use.
Scotch Whisky, or “scotch” is generally found in Scotland.
You will find recipes using all types of “whiskey” on this site, including Jameson & Ginger, Rusty Nail Cocktail, and a Cherry Whiskey Smash using bourbon whiskey. Confused yet? So is the rest of the world!
