We are heading into one of my favorite times of the year….. St. Patrick’s Day! There is just something special about all of the Irish inspired meals, I just can’t get enough. One of my favorites, is this thick, sweet and tangy Guinness Glaze…..

No, I still do not drink Guinness, but I love cooking with it! When Bennigans left Cedar Rapids, I could no longer get my favorite Guinness Burger…..the horror!! So I set out to recreate my own Guinness Glaze at home. Let me tell you, that was a pretty simple task, there are only 3 ingredients in this sweet and tangy sauce…..

I have made it with Extra Stout as well as Draught, and I personally prefer Extra Stout. It gives it a deeper, richer flavor.

How to make Guinness Glaze:

Place all of your ingredients into a saucepan and bring to a boil…..

Reduce heat and simmer for 25 minutes, or until reduced by about half…..

It will still appear very thin, don’t worry, it thickens a bit as it cools…..

Notes:

  • Be careful not to whisk too vigorously. Glaze bubbles up quite high, so stir gently.
  • Pour into a container and keep in the refrigerator.
  • This glaze is amazing on salmon, chicken, burgers and grilled shrimp!
