Recipe inspiration

Are you an Outlander fan? If you are, then you know that tomorrow night is the final episode of the season…boo. We have spent the past few weeks watching Jamie and Claire swashbuckling their way through the Caribbean on their way to save young Ian in Jamaica. Unlike Pirates of the Caribbean, no one has mentioned Rum…or Caribbean Rum Punch! Maybe rum wasn’t the liquor of choice in the Caribbean back in the seventeenth century?

Things have changed since then, so I figured we should celebrate the end of this somewhat bizarre season with this tropical rum cocktail to drown our sorrows over the long wait ahead for the next season, and possibly to help us forget whatever Geillis has planned next! I knew she was kooky, but I wasn’t expecting her to turn into a complete wackadoodle!!

This Caribbean Rum Punch has the least amount of alcohol out of all of the rum drinks that I have created. Not that it won’t knock you on your arse, but it definitely has more of a fruit punch feel to it!

🍍What is rum punch made of?

Caribbean Rum Punch recipe is usually made with a combination of rum (white, gold, dark or coconut), fruit juices like pineapple, orange, passion fruit, and grenadine for a uniform color. Some version add bitters, some lemon or lime juice based on personal preference and location.

🍊How do you make Caribbean Rum Punch?

  • Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake well to combine.
  • Serve over ice in a short cocktail glass. {mine are similar to these, but slightly smaller} affiliate link
  • Garnish with an orange slice an a cherry.

Now kick back, relax, and imagine you are laying on a white sand beach listening to the ocean waves!

How long does Caribbean rum punch last?

I have made this punch recipe the day before a party and stored it in a large, glass jug in the refrigerator. I would not go past two days, the flavors will start to go strange hanging out together. Pour into glasses and add the fruit garnish when ready to serve.

📌 Recipe Notes

  • Chill the pineapple and orange juices ahead of time so your ice doesn’t melt as fast.
  • Angostura Bitters are found on the top shelf of the mixers aisle in most grocery store liquor departments. Unless you live in the 29 states that do not allow liquor sales, in which case I am not sure where it would be located…sorry.
  • For a spicier cocktail, use spiced dark rum.

I was shocked when I read that only 21 states allow liquor sales in grocery stores, and 37 allow liquor sales on Sundays. So strange!

🍹What are some rum punch variations?

  • Bahama Mama – light, dark, coconut and 151 rums, pineapple and orange juice with grenadine.
  • Rum Runner Cocktail – light and dark rum, banana and blackberry liqueur, pineapple and orange juice, and grenadine.
  • Hurricane Cocktail – light and dark rum, passion fruit, orange and lime juice, mixed with simple syrup and grenadine.
  • Mai Tai Cocktail – light and dark rum, orange and almond liqueur, pineapple and orange juice, and grenadine.
