Your guests will love this delicious and easy Italian lemon cocktail spritzer made with limoncello, prosecco and club soda! This simple cocktail is perfect for special occasions like New Year’s Eve, Mother’s Day or a summer backyard party.
This limoncello spritzer with prosecco recipe is light and refreshing without being too sweet or too lemony, as if that was possible.
Limoncello Prosecco Spritzer ingredients:
- a good quality limoncello – cheap limoncello tastes like Pledge!!
- prosecco – Italian sparkling wine similar to champagne.
- club soda or sugar-free La Croix lemon sparkling water.
How to make a Limoncello Spritzer
Pour .5 ounce of limoncello into a 7 ounce champagne flute.
Add .5 ounce of club soda or La Croix sparkling water to the glass.
Top off the cocktail with 6 ounces of prosecco.
Add a lemon twist and serve immediately.
This is the cocktail that I have chosen for New Year’s Eve this year. I want to go into the new year with a light, bright, bubbly outlook!!
Recipe Notes & Tips
- Chill the limoncello for several hours before serving. High quality or homemade limoncello using 100 proof vodka can be frozen until ready to serve. Lower proof will be more like a slushy consistency but still delicious.
- I could not find club soda at the grocery store, so I chose to use the Limoncello flavored La Croix sparkling water. My drink was not sweet at all, which works for me. Club soda is traditionally used in Spritzer recipes.
- A 750ml bottle of prosecco is equal to 25.36 ounces.
What is limoncello?
It is a sweet Italian liqueur with intense lemon flavor. It is made by placing lemon peels in a bottle with vodka that is set aside to steep for several weeks to develop the highly concentrated lemon flavor by releasing the citrus oils. It is then mixed with simple syrup (sugar water) to create a sweet liqueur that can be sipped straight, or mixed into a cocktail.
What is prosecco?
Prosecco is a sparkling white wine made in Northern Italy from Glera grapes, unlike champagne which is made in France from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir or Pinot Meunier grapes.
Prosecco like Champagne comes in different varieties:
- Extra Brut – very dry
- Brut – slightly sweeter than the Extra Brut
- Extra Dry – even more sweetness than either Brut variety, but not too sweet.
- Dry – this is the sweetest of the prosecco varieties.
The Cupcake Prosecco that I used is a Dry variety with a DOC designation (Denominazione di Origine Controllata). It is a good prosecco at a good price. Prosecco brands with the DOCG designation (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) have higher standards to meet, therefore the quality and the price is higher.

Isn’t all club soda sugar free?
You are correct Sandra, I was thinking of tonic water when I was looking through the aisle in the store. Never did find any club soda, lol.
This looks so good and perfect for the holidays! Will be trying soon!
