Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

With all of the stress of creating a blog, I have no energy to create a gourmet meal. We are currently in our 4th theme/template/design for this blog….. and it it 2 a.m.! We need to test the new recipe plugin that I downloaded and see if it works, I didn’t think to delete the original one first.

The only thing that my brain could think of was a good ‘ol Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich recipe. Maybe a 6 year old, or very hungry adult, will come along and need to learn how to make peanut butter and jelly. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.

So here it is everyone…..My very first blog post!!! And no, I did not take this photo. It is now 3am and I do not think I should be trusted with sharp objects. 😉

How to make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

Spread peanut butter evenly across a slice of bread.

Evenly spread jam or jelly across the other slice of bread.

Place the two sides together and cut diagonally with a knife from one corner to the other. You can also cut into shapes with cookie cutters, or simply cut in half.

Serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with potato chips or veggie sticks and lots of napkins.

Things to add to your sandwich

  • Add crunch to your sandwich with granola, pretzels, crushed chips, or crackers.
  • Add more sweetness with maple syrup, banana slices, sliced strawberries, or honey.
  • Adding cheese like brie, mozzarella, or cheddar adds protein, texture and additional flavor.
  • Toast the bread before hand for crunch and to melt the peanut butter and jelly.
  • You can also make a grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich by spreading softened butter on the outside of the sandwich and heating in a skillet until browned.

How to make Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Healthy

  • Choose an all-natural peanut butter that only contains peanuts, and no sugar.
  • Pick preserves, jam or jelly that contains fruit juice instead of corn syrup or added sugar.
  • Make your sandwich with whole-grain, gluten-free, preservative-free bread based on your dietary needs/restrictions.

  • Substitute marshmallow fluff to create a “fluffernutter” sandwich.
  • Use your choice of nut butter – almond, safflower seed, or cashews.
  • For nut allergies, substitute cream cheese.
  • Create your own uncrustable pb and j sandwich using a sandwich cutter to remove the crusts and seal the edges. Make multiple sandwiches and freeze in zipper topped bags until ready to serve.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices whole wheat bread or bread of your choice
  • 2 tablespoons all-natural peanut butter smooth or chunky, your choice
  • 1 tablespoon raspberry preserves or your favorite flavor

Instructions

  • Spread peanut butter on one slice of bread
  • Spread raspberry preserves on the second slice of bread
  • Place the 2 slices together and cut diagonally with a knife, cut into shapes, or simply cut in half
  • Serve with potato chips or fresh veggie sticks
